With the entire crisis that the world experiences, now is the time to think of options on how to maintain the financial stability of the family. Since schooling takes so much of the financial pie chart, one of the best options for parents like you is to school your children yourself.
Assessing effectivity of home schooling
Studies say that aside from the demanding academic set up, another reason why students—especially the younger ones—get tired of schooling is the volume of assignments given without getting enough help such as tutoring from people around them. This is the reason why teachers as well as other school officials encourage that the family do something to help the child with school wok when at home.
Home schooling could be more effective if the parents are more sensitive to what the child can and cannot do. Experts say that there is no such thing as an idiot child when it comes to academic work. It’s just that his or her intelligence may lie some field else that he or she and even the parents themselves have yet to discover.
When you home school your child, be sensitive to what she or he can attain. Don’t force the child do understand or do something that he or she really doesn’t know or cannot perform. Never tell the child that he or she is never good enough because the child will believe it and he or she will no longer exert effort to try harder.
Aside from making sure that the child gets all the help and support he or she needs when completing academic tasks at home, there are also other things that parents can try as well as other members of the family can do such as meeting with the child's teacher where a free-wheeling discussion about the child's progress.
The pros and cons
The major advantage of schooling your children yourself is that you can save some money for other expenses. Aside from that, you can also spend more time with your children and you can monitor their progress.
But, there are also disadvantages in this set up because it would mean lesser time for you to work or even lesser time to spend time for yourself. And if you are not able to balance the set up well, it might also affect the child when it comes to social interaction with other people, especially kids of his or her age. Another disadvantage would be is that there will be lesser interaction of the child to the outside world since he or she doesn’t go to school. To address this issue, make sure that you bring the child out very often where he or she can play with other kids.
Before you finally decide whether to school your children yourself or not, it is best if you would make an overall assessment of yourself, the environment and the people you live with. Home schooling a child is no joke because the foundation of the child when it comes to studying relies on this.
